CODEBASE VALUE ESTIMATOR

What could your codebase be worth?

Twelve quick questions about a private codebase, game project or toolset. You’ll get an illustrative range, the three things that would move it most, and how it lines up with what our buyers ask for today.

01 What is it?
02 Main languages

Pick any. This helps us match buyers; it doesn’t change the range.

03 Roughly how many lines of code?

Your own code, leaving out dependencies and generated files.

04 Years of history
05 People who contributed
06 Pull requests reviewed by someone other than the author

Merged requests with a real review, approval or comment. The provenance check counts them for you.

07 Automated tests
08 Can you provide the git history?
09 Has any of it ever been public?
10 How much was written with generative AI?
11 Ever sold or licensed for AI or data use?
12 Are the rights yours to offer?

Including any employer, client, co-founder or contributor rights. The rights checker can help.

How the range is worked out

Every number here is an assumption chosen for this tool, the same ones the Goodwattle calculator uses. They are not based on completed sales or validated market pricing.

1. Scope sets the band

Lines of codeScopeBand (AUD)
Under 10kSmallA$100–A$500
10k–50kMediumA$500–A$2,500
50k–200kLarge (company scale with 21+ contributors)A$2,500–A$10,000
200k and overCompany scaleA$10,000–A$50,000

2. Readiness scales it

Points for tests (none 0, some 1, substantial 2), reviewed pull requests (under 50 or unknown 0, 50–249 1, 250+ 2) and years of history (under 1 0, 1–3 1, 3+ 2), less 1 for partial history or 2 for none. 0–1 points ×0.7, 2–4 points ×1, 5 or more ×1.2. Ends are rounded to the nearest 10.

3. Rights decide whether there’s a range at all

Only “Yes, I have authority” shows a range. “Not sure” and “No” show a next step instead. Choosing an option is not a rights check or legal clearance.

4. NZD is a fixed conversion

NZD amounts use a fixed NZ$1.10 per A$1, not a live exchange rate.

5. Buyer fit is separate from the range

The fit indicator compares your answers with the screen our buyers use today: owned private rights, never public, never licensed for AI before, 250+ human-reviewed pull requests, intact git history and mostly human-authored code. It doesn’t change the range. Briefs change, so a gap today isn’t a no forever.

6. What would move it

We try each realistic improvement on its own (including related repositories, substantial tests, evidence of 250+ reviewed requests, full history) and list the three that lift the top of the range most. Where nothing would change the range, we list what would change buyer fit.

Smaller projects can range from A$200 to A$10,000. Substantial company codebases can be worth A$60,000 or more, evaluated individually. This estimator looks at code, not the value of your business, its revenue or customers. Any offer, permitted use and terms are agreed separately in writing, and a review can lead to a different amount, a licence or no offer.
